Seaforth Steel Band has its origins in the Bin Wagon Project, a touring arts initiative created by SING. The "bin wagon" - which contained a visual arts project and the instruments of a steel band - aimed to reach young people on the streets. The results were astonishing with more than 120 young people taking part in the music sessions, and 60 putting their names down for further steel band rehearsals.

The group has now evolved into junior and senior bands, both of which have worked hard to produce a performance repertoire with the help of two tutors from Manchester. The senior band has delivered workshops and performances from Seaforth to Manchester to Mons in Belgium; bookings are taken throughout the year. Most recently the senior band has won the Littlewoods Trophy and performed at the Summer Pops, the Women's 10K race, Tranmere Festival and Albert Dock.

Seaforth Steel Band has a unique potential in terms of evolving into a great facility for providing social and educational benefits for the community. Anyone interested in joining the band should contact Paddy Hogan on 0151 286 3073.
